Empowering Mothers and Children in Pakistan: Breaking the Chains of Bonded Labor

In Pakistan, bonded labor remains a harsh reality, with kiln bonded labor being one of the most pervasive forms. Pakistan produces a staggering 45 Billion bricks annually. Tragically, this industry often relies on the exploitation of children. According to a study by the International Labor Organization (ILO), approximately 4.2 million children in Pakistan are engaged in child labor. These children endure gruelling 16-hour workdays for meager wages while being exposed to hazardous conditions, including extreme temperatures, airborne dust, and toxic fumes.

At Flow Impact, we are dedicated to implementing programs that empower children by focusing on self-improvement. Our initiative help children who have been subjected to bonded labor address their trauma, conquer their fears, and develop essential leadership skills. These children also require crucial assistance: necessities such as food and shelter, medical attention, and legal support to secure their freedom. This holistic approach not only nurtures leadership qualities in children but also provides immediate relief to families in distress.

Economic Development for Mothers and Children

Under the leadership of Flow Impact’s Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Dr. Rubina Feroze Bhatti, Flow Impact will create microfinance projects and vocational training programs tailored for illiterate mothers. These initiatives will offer new income opportunities to families trapped in bonded labor. By supporting the mothers’ earnings, we ensure that children can attend school and assist their mothers in managing finances for small business endeavors. This dual approach enables children to develop valuable life skills and business acumen.

Investing in the education of bonded child laborers equips them with the tools to advocate for change and the knowledge and skills necessary to drive societal transformation. Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed of the Sindh Assembly passionately underscores this point:

“Empowering laborer children through education breaks the cycle of exploitation and bondage. By investing in microfinance projects and vocational training for illiterate mothers, we create avenues for economic independence, enabling children to attend school and acquire essential life skills. This investment not only transforms individual lives but also lays the foundation for a society where exploitation is replaced with empowerment and opportunity.”

We invite you to walk alongside us on this journey as we nurture our future leaders. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for the children and families of Pakistan. Your support will help us break the chains of bonded labor and foster a society where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

The Problem

In the vast majority of countries—including the United States, Mexico, Canada, India, Pakistan, and much of Latin America—financial education is either optional or non-existent in childhood.

Contrast that with Finland and Australia, where evidence shows that early financial literacy directly correlates with better adult financial behavior, mental well-being, and economic resilience.

Our Solution

A fun, gamified, interactive, self-paced digital curriculum tailored to key stages of youth development—from preschoolers to young adults—infused with global best practices and grounded in research-backed, unbiased financial education.
